China’s Wingtech Demands Immediate Restoration of Control Over Nexperia
Chinese technology giant Wingtech has demanded the immediate restoration of its control over Nexperia, a Netherlands-based semiconductor company, calling the Dutch government’s actions “illegal and politically motivated.” According to Wingtech, the temporary administrative takeover by the Dutch authorities has not only shaken investor confidence but also threatens the stability of the global semiconductor supply chain.
The controversy began when the Netherlands invoked the “Goods Availability Act” to temporarily seize administrative control of Nexperia, citing national security concerns. This unprecedented move has drawn global attention, as Dutch courts also suspended Wingtech founder and Nexperia CEO Zhang Xuezheng and placed the company’s shares under the oversight of a government-appointed trustee.
Wingtech has strongly rejected the court’s decision, labeling it as politically driven rather than based on technical grounds. The company emphasized that treating the case as a political issue could seriously impact China-Netherlands economic relations and investor trust.
China’s Ministry of Commerce has expressed full support for Wingtech, warning that the Dutch government’s actions set a “dangerous precedent” and could destabilize the global semiconductor supply chain. Chinese authorities have urged the Netherlands to resolve the matter transparently and based on factual evidence rather than political pressure.
In response, the Dutch government has softened its stance by temporarily suspending the unilateral control order over Nexperia. The Minister of Economic Affairs highlighted the intention to continue negotiations with China in a constructive and cooperative manner to prevent escalation.
Wingtech has warned that failure to restore full control of Nexperia by the end of 2025 could lead to severe disruptions in revenue, profitability, and cash flow. Nexperia’s production units are critical for Europe’s automotive industry, and any interruptions could impact the global automotive supply chain.
Industry experts note that this dispute extends beyond corporate or bilateral legal issues, representing a significant challenge to the international semiconductor market. The coming weeks will be decisive, as Dutch court rulings, China’s response, and European policy decisions will influence the direction of the global chip industry.
This case highlights the growing tension between national security considerations and global trade in advanced technology sectors. It underscores the importance of cooperation and transparency in maintaining stability within critical supply chains that support industries worldwide.
