On 22 November 2025, the United Arab Emirates unveiled a $1 billion investment plan to expand artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and services across Africa. The initiative, called the “AI for Development Initiative,” aims to improve education, healthcare, climate adaptation, and digital governance in African nations. UAE Minister of State Saeed bin Mubarak Al Hajeri described AI not just as a technological tool, but as a key pillar for human progress.
The plan focuses on multiple sectors. In education, AI will enhance digital learning platforms and provide broader access to quality education. In healthcare, AI-powered tools and analytical models will improve medical services, especially in remote areas. For climate adaptation, AI will analyze environmental data to help African countries plan and respond to climate challenges.
