Dutch semiconductor manufacturer Nexperia has taken a major step to ensure uninterrupted production of IGBT power chips in China for 2026. With rising demand in the automotive and industrial sectors and ongoing international trade tensions affecting global chip supply chains, Nexperia China has finalized agreements with local suppliers to secure silicon wafer supplies.

The company has signed contracts with Wingsky Semi, Shanghai GAT Semiconductor, and United Nova Technology Co, all linked to SMIC, China’s leading semiconductor manufacturer. These agreements follow a period when wafer supplies from Nexperia’s Netherlands-based parent company were limited, causing temporary production slowdowns at local factories.

The new contracts will cover all wafer requirements for Nexperia China’s IGBT (Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistor) power chips and modules, which are essential for electric vehicles (EVs) and industrial machinery. The agreements include verification of the suppliers’ production capacity to ensure continuous supply even if import disruptions occur.
