Hewlett Packard Enterprise Wins $931 Million Cloud Contract from US Defense Department

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has been awarded a $931 million cloud services contract by the United States Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) under a 10-year Other Transaction Authority (OTA) agreement. This contract enables HPE to provide a distributed hybrid multi-cloud solution aimed at modernizing the Department of Defense’s data centers.

Under this initiative, HPE will deploy its GreenLake technology-based private cloud enterprise, designed to be secure and NIST-compliant, with air-gapped management features for enhanced protection. The platform also implements a zero-trust architecture, ensuring high levels of data privacy and security.

According to HPE, the upgrade will include next-generation digital and artificial intelligence (AI) services, critical for global and real-time defense operations. Using the GreenLake platform, DISA will manage its IT resources across public and private clouds in a unified environment, increasing scalability, automation, and flexibility while maintaining strong security.

The project aims to modernize DISA’s J9 hosting and compute infrastructure, providing a unified platform to improve IT efficiency and reduce administrative complexities. HPE’s Hybrid Cloud CTO and General Manager, Fidelma Russo, stated:

“We built GreenLake to deliver a secure, unified cloud experience, and we are proud that DISA selected us to create an autonomous cloud that meets their mission-critical requirements.”

This contract reflects the U.S. government’s strategy for infrastructure modernization, prioritizing AI, data analytics, and cloud technologies for military and defense applications. Additionally, the project represents a major step toward adopting sovereign cloud models, multi-tenancy, and enhanced data security.

The agreement is also significant for HPE, as it strengthens the company’s cloud and AI capabilities in the defense sector. DISA’s selection of HPE highlights the U.S. government’s focus on partnering with advanced technology providers capable of meeting future defense needs.

Overall, this $931 million cloud contract is a pivotal development that will not only upgrade defense data centers but also make future defense operations more agile, digital, and AI-driven.
