Disqualification Will Not Solve Problems, Barrister Gohar Stresses Constitutional Dialogue
On Tuesday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan delivered a clear message: disqualifying political leaders is not a solution to Pakistan’s political crisis. He stated that such actions are not only against the spirit of the Constitution but also weaken the democratic system.
Speaking to the media outside the Peshawar High Court, Barrister Gohar declared the recent moves against PTI leaders — particularly the disqualification of Omar Ayub — as unconstitutional. He pointed out that the Election Commission had not issued any formal notice to Omar Ayub before the decision, despite his active service to the people. He emphasized that PTI will continue to present its stance through legal means and fight until Chairman Imran Khan is released.
Barrister Gohar stressed that strengthening democracy requires resolving issues within the legal and constitutional framework. While disqualification may offer short-term political advantage, it deepens political divisions in the country. He said such decisions damage public trust and make democratic institutions controversial.
He added that PTI has always supported parliamentary dialogue and institutional reforms. If Pakistan is to emerge from this political turmoil, all stakeholders must come to the table for constitutional dialogue. According to him, transparent judicial processes and the rule of law are the only paths to making Pakistan a stable and democratic nation.
His remarks come at a time of growing political tension, with PTI alleging that it is being systematically targeted. Barrister Gohar warned that to save democracy, all parties must avoid political victimization and follow constitutional procedures — otherwise, the country will sink deeper into crisis.
