Field Marshal Asim Munir Reaffirms Unbreakable Defense Ties with China on PLA Day
On August 1, 2025, Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, reaffirmed the unshakable strategic and defense partnership between Pakistan and China during the 98th founding anniversary of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). The event was held at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi and was attended by top Chinese diplomats, including Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong and Defense Attaché Major General Wang Zhong.
In his address, Asim Munir hailed the PLA as a symbol of China's strength, peace, and stability. He emphasized that the Pakistan Army shares a deeply rooted relationship with the PLA, built on mutual trust, brotherhood, and common strategic goals. He stated that Pakistan and China not only share borders but also values of sovereignty, security, and development.
The Army Chief mentioned that the ties between the armed forces of both countries have stood the test of time and have only grown stronger in every challenge. He especially highlighted the significance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a practical reflection of economic and defense cooperation between the two nations.
Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong also spoke on the occasion and called Pakistan China’s “iron brother.” He reiterated that China remains committed to strengthening cooperation with Pakistan across all fields—economic, defense, and regional peace.
Field Marshal Munir praised the PLA’s advancements in technology and its role in counter-terrorism, noting that Pakistan’s armed forces are aligned with similar goals. He stated that the partnership between the PLA and Pakistan Army is not based on short-term interests but is rooted in shared history, values, and mutual respect.
He sent a clear message that in today’s shifting global landscape, Pakistan's top priority is to maintain its strategic partnership with China. He assured that Pakistan stands firmly with China on all fronts and that this friendship will only deepen in the face of future challenges.
The ceremony strongly reinforced the message that the Pakistan-China defense alliance is a cornerstone of peace and stability in the region, and will remain a guiding force for mutual prosperity and long-term security.
