AI Startup Flex Raises $60 Million to Power Finance Tools for Mid‑Sized Businesses
American AI fintech startup Flex recently raised USD 60 million in a Series B funding round, led by Portage Ventures. This brings total equity funding to USD 105 million, valuing the company at roughly USD 500 million.
Flex focuses on mid‑sized businesses — those generating between USD 2 million and USD 100 million annually — which the company affectionately calls “jumbo shrimps”: neither small startups nor large corporations, but medium-scale firms often underserved by traditional banks and fintech providers.
The startup provides a comprehensive financial platform, combining business credit, payments, expense management, and personal/business finance tools under one roof. Its goal is to give business owners a unified financial infrastructure, reducing the need to manage multiple systems.
At the core of Flex’s offering is AI-powered automation: underwriting, expense processing, cash management, and ERP-style tools leverage artificial intelligence. To ensure reliability, all AI decisions are reviewed by human experts, minimizing risk while maximizing efficiency.
Over the past 12 months, Flex has tripled its payments volume to USD 3 billion. The company is also launching an invite-only card, “Flex Elite,” aimed at high-value clients, positioning it to compete with premium cards like the Amex Centurion. The new funding will help expand the team and accelerate delivery of new products to more clients.
Flex’s platform addresses a critical gap in the market: many mid-sized businesses have been underserved by both traditional financial institutions and current fintech solutions. If successful, Flex could reshape how mid-market businesses manage banking, credit, and payments — all from a single AI-powered platform with human oversight.
With growing demand for versatile business finance tools, Flex is emerging as a potential model for future fintech innovation in the mid-sized business sector.
